We invite all those who are interested in medicine to watch the documentary about the development of microsurgery in Russia. The surgeons who created and continue to develop this direction in Russia tell about their favourite work and the things that are necessary for further progress.
Microsurgery is a rather new field of medicine. Microsurgical techniques and up-to-date equipment enable the successful performance of the most complex surgical interventions and the restoration of the functions of affected organs.
In 1980, the first Department of Microsurgery was created in the current Russian Scientific Center of Surgery named after Academician B.V. Petrovsky, RAMS. It was headed by Viktor Solomonovich Krylov. The department was engaged in the use of microsurgical techniques in various fields and training of the necessary specialists.
First success was achieved in replantation surgery, which became the driver of microsurgery. Later, the active development of elective reconstructive microsurgery and modern plastic surgery was observed. For only 30 years, graft acceptance has increased from 60% to 98%. This gave people hope for the return to normal life after serious diseases.
In 2010, with the support of Carl Zeiss, the first microsurgery course was held in Russia. The practical part was implemented using ZEISS operating microscopes. «Many of the current microsurgeons passed this training,» states Dmitry Vladimirovich Melnikov, Cand. Med., Plastic Surgeon, the member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

The principle of surgery, i.e. manual action, will remain. Only the hand will hold not just a scalpel or even a laser scalpel. <...> There will be less «art» of surgery, but more possibilities.
