2018 has marked 115 years since the emergence of ZEISS in Russia. During this entire period the company helped its partners to launch new projects, make scientific discoveries. Therefore ZEISS launched a contest named “New life” — a competition for the best macrophotograph, symbolizing a new idea, discovery or technological breakthrough.
The contest participants were to capture any object that reminds of a new life being born, come up with an inscription with the macrograph history, and publish it on social media with a hashtag #115zeissinrussia. The contest lasted from April 09 to October 01, 2018. It united the users of ZEISS’s optical, laser and electronic microscopes from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Kaliningrad and Novosibirsk.
Awards and winners
Thanks to all the participants for the fascinating stories about the beginning of a new life and we announce the winners:

First place — Grigory Pozhvanov (Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences) for the photo of the most ancient organisms on Earth taken with the use of ZEISS LSM 710 laser microscope.

Second place — Lyudmila Kraeva (Saint-Petersburg Pasteur Institute), for video of the Candida albicans cell birth, made with the use of ZEISS SUPRA 25.

Third place — Dmitry Sagonenko (SMILE Eyes Clinic) for the photo of a Stradivari violin in ZEISS VisuMax eyepieces.
Award-winning places have been taken by: Kaplan Sheudzhen, Ilnar Khasanov, Irina Kitaeva, Konstantin Kotlyar, Olga Kalinina, Philip Sapozhnikov, Yulia Taskaeva, Artem Kozionov and Lilia Dvoretskaya.
