Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Complex, OPTEC, and Carl Zeiss Meditec Signed Trilateral Cooperation Agreement

On 10 March 2017, the Fedorov Eye Microsurgery Complex, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, and OPTEC signed a trilateral cooperation agreement. The agreement was signed by Professor Alexander Chukhrayov, General Director of the Eye Microsurgery Complex, Michael Hubensack, Vice President Sales Distribution Partners EMEA and LATAM at Carl Zeiss Meditec, and Olga Seredkina, OPTEC General Manager.

By this agreement, the parties confirm their commitment to cooperation and technology partnership in the area of diagnostics and innovative methods for cataract and corneal surgery. As part of the agreement, a joint reference center will be established for fundus pathology diagnostics, the use of ZEISS intraocular multifocal and toric lenses, and the application of the ZEISS Rescan 700 solution in anterior and posterior eye segment surgery.

ZEISS Rescan is a unique system where the optical coherence tomography solution is integrated into the OPMI Lumera 700 microscope. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is widely used for the visualization of anterior and posterior eye segment structures. The introduction of this method has redefined the present-day concept of many eye diseases. OCT systems are generally used for diagnostics while the ZEISS Rescan solution allows for intraoperative OCT visualization during eye surgery. Real-time OCT feedback may impact surgical decision-making.

«The agreement will be a stepping stone to further development of new relations," said Professor Chukhrayov.

«We have laid a solid foundation for enhancing our cooperation and we will keep going forward," pointed out Michael Hubensack, Vice President Sales Distribution Partners EMEA and LATAM at Carl Zeiss Meditec.

The agreement also provides for joint training and professional development of ophthalmologists at the premises of the Eye Microsurgery Complex, joint events, visits of key scientists from Eye Microsurgery to foreign research centers where ZEISS equipment is used, and other initiatives for sharing knowledge and experience. The parties to the agreement emphasize the importance of advanced technology introduced in the everyday ophthalmological practice.

«It is a great honor for our company to be your partner," said Maxim Igelnik, General Manager of GOC OPTEC Group, addressing the management of Eye Microsurgery Complex. «At the same time, it entails a strong responsibility for us to be up to the mark and continue to improve.»

One of the challenges faced by Eye Microsurgery is to introduce the latest methods for diagnostics and treatment of eye disorders into the medical practice. Eye Microsurgery and its wide branch network made the best technological innovations in the world available to those who live in all Russian regions. The cooperation between the Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Complex, Carl Zeiss, and OP TEC has a long and good history dating back many years. Eye Microsurgery in Moscow and its branches all over Russia use up-to-date ZEISS equipment, such as diagnostic tools for retina and fundus examination, ophthalmic lasers and microscopes, femtosecond and excimer lasers, and cataract surgery solutions.
